The prospective observational Stress, Pregnancy, and Health (SPAH) cohort study enrolled 605 participants from 2018-2022 to assess the impact of early life and prenatal stress on SES and racial disparities in inflammatory physiology, placental histology and gene expression, and obstetric outcomes. The SPAH data set includes detailed surveys and interviews, maternal and placental biomarkers, and medical record variables for secondary analysis. The student will select from pre-specified planned analyses or develop their own secondary analysis plan using the SPAH data set, analyze these data to answer predefined and new hypotheses as appropriate, and create abstracts/manuscripts.
To assess the associations between various stressors, social determinants of health or other environmental exposures and inflammatory biomarkers, placental histology and gene expression, and perinatal outcomes.
Quantitative analysis including descriptives, adjusted and unadjusted t-tests, chi-squared, ANOVA, and regression analysis.
